How to obtain your BIR number For Trinidad and Tobago citizens who lives abroad:

In case of a person who never worked before – a letter of exemption can be retrieved and should be sufficient once the person remains abroad. A copy of deed and valuation must be sent along with exemption letter. Persons residing locally may be required to apply to the BIR for an exemption letter which has an expiration date of approximately 3 months.

Or, in case of a person who did work in the past (Trinidad and Tobago) – but cannot recall their BIR number, this can be retrieved by means of a request in writing to Board of Inland Revenue for a track record, attaching their IDs and providing an address as at the time they were working.
